Situated in West One at the end of Devonshire Street and spanning two floors, Wigs and Warpaint is a bustling, fun environment and the largest independent hair salon in Sheffield. Managed by award winning hairdresser, Claire Flack, they not only offer a wide range of hair services, but also make up and beauty treatments as well as a creative team whose work can be found on a number of high-profile shoots and fashion events both here in Sheffield and further afield. We spoke with joint owner Paul who discussed cuts, curls and haircuts for horses!
How long has Wigs and Warpaint been open?
We opened the doors in October 2007 so we are just celebrating our 11th year. It seems to have flown by
How many stylists do you have available?
This can vary daily but usually we have at least 20 available each day
What are the latest trends and what styles are hot at the moment?
Bright colours and perms!
How much is an average cut and blow dry?
This can start from as little as £20 but dependent on experience can be as high as £70
Do you offer any discounts, offers or student concessions?
The model days are Mondays where we charge a minimal fee to cover the colour and you can get a cut from as little as 5 quid! These are carried out by the younger trainees to get them ready for the shop floor so although it takes a bit longer than normal it’s fully supervised by wigs founder Claire so all goes swimmingly.. bargain!
We offer all students 15% off for all visits. We always have offers online too on our website, either on specific treatments or for new clients etc. Check our website and/or follow our Facebook page to keep up to date.
My colleague has mentioned that you serve free wine and beers while having your hair cut – Is this really a thing?
Yep, it’s most definitely a thing. Make sure you grab one on your next visit
We’ve seen that you also do make up and beauty. Can you tell us a bit more about these?
We offer a glam, make up service, perfect for nights out, weddings, celebrations or any occasion, as well as brows and lashes and nails. We don’t offer massage or facials – we leave that to the spa
Finally, what can someone expect if they visit Wigs and Warpaint for the first time? What’s the vibe and the environment like?
The salon is usually buzzing and a hive of frantic activity (in a good way) on a Saturday. There’s always a hum with plenty of folk about and we make time for everyone. We cater for all humans some dogs and occasionally even horses!
Claire, Wigs and Warpaint salon owner, is a horse fanatic and recently welcomed some horses into the salon for a short back and sides, all in the name of charity – You don’t get that sort of leftfield thinking in most salons 😊
